Lincolnshire Plum Bread

Great for afternoon tea with butter and a slice of Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese

  • Loaf tins


  • 12 ozs Self raising flour
  • 3 ozs Currents
  • 7 ozs Sultanas
  • 6 ozs Raisins
  • 2 ozs Margarine or Butter
  • 2 ozs Lard
  • 8 ozs Castor Sugar
  • 1 ea Egg
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Allspice


  • Preheat oven to 160 fan, 170 F normal oven.
    Mix dried ingredients (flour, sugar, salt).
    Rub in fats.
    Mix in fruit.
    Warm milk and add yeast and eggs with ½ tsp of sugar.
    Combine with dry ingredients.
    Mix well.
    Place in loaf tin/s halfway up and place in oven on the middle lower shelf.
    Cook for 1.5 to 2 hours until cooked.
    Leave in tins until cooled down.
    Seal in tins or Tupperware in a cool place, as this is best left to mature.
    Note: Serve with butter and Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese.
