Started to plot the Grimsby to Louth line and gathering some further information from the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at http://www.lincolnshirewoldsrailway.co.uk/
Half way down the Barton line and added the missing part of the map.
Finished adding the AWS through to Thorne, just Thorne to Doncaster to do now.
Rebuilding all the Immingham Docks area. Adding coal and Ore pickups to take to Scunthorpe to produce steel.
Mar 1, 2009
Well I have neglected this site for a while, so what have I been doing since the last update.
Completed:
- Cleethorpes to Barnetby.
- Barnetby to Thorne South.
- Hull to Thorne North.
- Thorne Junction to Doncaster outskirts.
Still to do:
- EWS ramps thoughout all the route.
- Signals throughout all the route.
- Possible Goole to Selby line.
- Add the rest of Scunthorpe Steelworks.
- Tidy up the whole of the Immingham docks area.
- Add the Barton line, north end as I had to delete it due to a mapping error.

Happy forth Birthday to this project. It has been four years in the making and its now nearly finished, Phew.
July 1, 2007
Been a while since updating the site, so here is where I am at the moment.
Finished the main route and its connected all up from Cleethorpes to Thorne.
Work still to do:
- Signaling to be done throughout the route
- Thorne Station is .5 miles too far to the South to enable a link up with other routes
- Still a lot of fields to the West of Scunthorpe to be painted
1976 Cab ride version for the ECML project:
- Added Grimsby Goods yard
- Added Louth Junction
- Changed signals to older versions
- Changed all track to wooden sleepers
- Changed lever crossing barriers to gated crossings
- Removed flyover near Grimsby Docks/Riby Square and added a gated crossing
October 1, 2006
At last I have merged both parts of the route and now the grand task of adding 1000's of trees and clutter to the completed route. One thing I noticed on merging was a length of unwanted track that ran the length of the whole map, took ages to get rid of it.
Passed on to the rest of the ECML team a copy, for playing with and awaiting their feedback.
Sept 10, 2006
Been a while since an update, as I have been on holiday and also involved with other projects. Only 5 miles of track to lay around the West of Barnetby now, so that both parts can be joined up.
Last week visited the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society (http://www.afrps.co.uk) who run a trip around the Corus Steel works at Scunthorpe, great day out and its free as well (Donations are asked for at the ends and are well worth the offerings) Trips must be booked in advance, see the site for details.
Pictures of the visit are here

Well after a long period of not updating and outside changes of work related stuff, now back on track and nearly ready to complete.
Dec 04. 2005
Not been updating this for a long time, as I have been busy in real life. So where am I now, I hear you say?
Well I have started on the East side of Scunthorpe, running down the line to Wrawby and branched off North towards Flixborough Refinery and the rubbish land fill tip that accepts all the rubbish from the Peterborough area for some reason. Once that is done then its back over the main line to fill in the Steel works with loads of industrial clutter to make it look busy.
Oct 29. 2005
Crowle to Althorpe now completed and moved past the canals at Althorpe and started to build Scunthorpe West, across the viaduct and huge cuttings, where the ground goes from 3 meters up to 50 meters, in a space of a couple of miles.
Taking the line past the Steel works to connect at Wrawby Jnc. to link up to Part 1, before I go back and attack the Steel works.
Oct 16. 2005
Sorted out the many problems with the addition of upgrading to Trainz 2006, loads faster and also runs faster, so first impressions are very good. Still a few problems sorting out additional items on the Download Station but overall its good to use.
Now starting on Part 2 of the route and already in 2 days, finished the route from Thorne towards Crowle.
Sept 28. 2005
Well been a busy month with a couple of weeks holiday and the launch of the new version of Trainz 2006. The route has been put on hold for a couple of weeks, as I now have to go back and make most parts available in both versions. This will take a while, as I have at the moment, 707 parts that are not compatible in 2006.
Part one of the route is completed and awaiting ECML brew crew Beta testing for Ver 2004.
Aug 10. 2005
Nearly finished Barnetby area and now moving back to Cleethorpes and testing and adjusting tracks, signals, sidings and functionality for trains to travel safely. Once that's done I am releasing this part of the route for Beta testing to the ECML Crew.
Aug 08, 2005
Finished Barton branch line and now moving onto the Main line at Barnetby, once that's completed this will be the end of part one of the route.
July 25, 2005
Now arrived at Barton and completed all the track and surrounding areas right up to Barrow Haven stop. Barton has lots of Clay pits to the north of the track and is taking some time to complete. Once this is done and Barton itself I will then move to the point between New Barnetby and Barnetby itself so I can join up the the ECML crew coming towards me from Lincoln.
June 25, 2005
Stopped one mile short of Barnetby and now progressing along the Barton Line and already completed Ulceby and all the way to Goxhill through Thornton Abbey. Will post some screen shots of the Barton line soon.
June 05, 2005
Visited the Barrow Hill Roundhouse yesterday, to view the simulator for the DPS project, met up with the rest of the ECML team, what a great bunch of people. Viewed each others layouts and compared notes and had a guided tour of the complex.
Cleethorpes is now done and dusted, found out the platforms were too short, so had to go back and extend them.
Now moving on towards Barnetby and Wrawby Junction.
May 22, 2005
Had some setbacks these last few days, as I went back to change some areas in Grimsby as it was too graphic intensive and was slowing the PC down a bit. Learnt a new trick using cameras today, where there is a lot of graphics to load put a static camera just before and the train will pass that point and will load the graphics up into the cache before you hit the area in the train view.
Really pleased with the Dock tower that Eldavo made for us and full credit goes to him for his skills and helpfulness, Thanks Dave.
Still not got any nearer Cleethorpes, this is due to painting all the fields around the grimsby area and towards Ulceby. Time consuming or what LOL
May 08, 2005
Well Grimsby is now done, bar a few changes that need doing. Progressing along the line towards Cleethorpes now and in the thick of it amongst the Fish Docks, screen shot on the front page. Next week I am going to revamp the front page of the site as it must be taking ages to load now for dial up users. I will only show the latest screen grab and a link to the archive of the others.
April 29. 2005
Started on Grimsby in earnest now and boy there is loads to add to this area. Added Top Town and surrounding the station area. Added Grimsby Docks station and Old Clee Station.
Moving onto the Fish Docks soon.
April 17. 2005
Now completed all the Track and sites around the Immingham Docks area, including The East side of Grimsby Industries and looping back onto the Main Line at East Marsh Sidings.
Industries available, will be as following:
Coal, Crude Oil, Petroleum, Diesel, AvGas, Container port, General Goods x 3 and Ore with a possible Car loader in the future.
Found some great aerial photographs to work from, Here and Here
April 10. 2005
Now plotting the route, using GPS CoOrds to get a fix on the terrain. Map of the whole route from Cleethorpes to Thorne here and the terrain heights are here.
Added around 20 miles of track with all the sidings, outbuildings and oil farms at Immingham Docks, which is now completed except for painting the ground.
April 09. 2005
Spent most of last week adding the Killingholme site to the route, this is taking a long time as there is an awful amount of oil tanks and roads in that area, nearly done now though. Might have to cut some items out of the tile, as its starting to slow down a bit, when it loads.
April 02. 2005
Added some track markers and tested all track and junctions with a test train, works fine so far.
March 31. 2005
Added some real pictures to this site of Brocklesby, Healing and Stallingborough.
March 30. 2005
Added Brocklesby Junction today, lots of painting to be done in the fields, I might leave it till all the track is laid though.
March 29, 2005
Now started all over again and this time I am making the route to scale, this is harder but more realistic to be honest.
Started at Stallingborough and added track to Ulceby via Haborough and Brocklesby Junction.
Plans to take in all the industrial tracks at Immingham docks and also the Steel works at Scunthorpe, so that will keep the freight drivers happy.
March 21, 2005
Added more details back up the track including a better layout of
track around the Grimsby area.
Oops just realised that my track runs from South to North and that's no good at all, Time to re-read the manuals, me thinks....
March 6, 2005
Added Humberside Airport.
Added Scunthorpe Steel mill. (Screen shots on front page)
Added track to a point pass Scunthorpe Town.
Struggling with the valley, beyond Scunthorpe.
March 5, 2005
Added Grimsby, Immingham Docks and Barnetby to the map
February 27, 2005
Started this site, to track the routes progress.
Added Cleethorpes
Added screen dumps to the site.
Added a map of the route. |
